Andy Roddick retired from professional tennis in 2012. According to Roddick’s wife, Brooklyn Decker, Roddick didn’t lose the trophies. She said: “It was really upsetting,” Decker says of coming home to find his accolades gone. [He] decided that these don’t mean success to me, these don’t define me and I don’t really care to have these material things sitting around the house, so he threw them in the trash. Decker explained that Roddick didn’t need the trophies to define his success, but there’s no denying that throwing them away completely was a drastic measure to take.
Open, but Roddick doesn’t have many trophies to show for his career. Decker joined for an interview and she described coming home from out of town to learn that her husband threw away the trophies from his 12-year professional tennis career. There are no tennis trophies displayed at their home.
